Semi Arid Zone Research Al Qalam University Partners ICRISAT
 
Al-Qalam University is working with International Crops Research Institute For the Semi-Arid Tropics ( *ICRISAT* ) to boost research on different varieties of millet to determine their adaptation to grow in semi-arid region of the country.

The outcome of the research will be based      on the results obtained from trials of the different varieties of millet planted on two hectares of land at the university farm.

Receiving the *ICRISAT* team in his office on Wednesday, 15th July 2020, the Vice- Chancellor, Al-Qalam University, Prof. Shehu   Garki Ado thanked *ICRISAT* for accepting to partner with the university to improve food production and the livelihood of farmers living in semi-arid region of the country.

He observed that with the international exposure of *ICRISAT*, the collaboration would assist the university to strengthen the take off of its newly established Institute of Semi-Arid Zone Studies.

Earlier, the Country Representative, *ICRISAT* *Nigeria* , Dr. Hakeem Ajeigbe has expressed willingness of the International Research Institute to have Al-Qalam University among its research family members.

Represented by Senior Scientist, Dr.Ignatius Angarawai, Dr. Ajeigbe explained that *ICRISAT* is conducting agricultural research in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa with partners throughout the world. He said, *"* As part of our technical support and responsibility, *ICRISAT* *Nigeria* is expanding its trial locations on millet and other crops for variety documentation and release in Nigeria ".
The *ICRISAT* team and the Vice-Chancellor visited the millet trial location on the two hectares of land at the university farm. the Semi-Arid Tropics ( *ICRISAT* ) to boost research on different varieties of millet to determine their adaptation to grow in semi-arid region of the country.
