*Al-Qalam Varsity Gets Approval To Establish College Of Agriculture*
Al-Qalam University, Katsina has obtained approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish *College of Agriculture* .
Also to be established is the *Institute of Arid Zone Studies ( IAZS).*
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shehu Garki Ado stated this while presenting the university's progress report to the Chancellor of the university, Mal. Aminu Alhassan Dantata on Tuesday, 31st December, 2019.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the proposed College of Agriculture would be a storey building with twelve lecture rooms, eight heads of department offices, eight professorial offices and sixteen senior lectures' offices.
The Institute of Arid Zone Studies (IAZS) is to function purely as a research centre on all aspects of life in the Arid Zone of the country including agriculture, science and technology, administration, political, economic, religious and cultural life of the people.
" Honourable Chancellor, we also succeeded in getting the approval of NUC to start five programmes. These are BSc. Science Laboratory Technology, Master of Banking and Finance (MBF), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of International Trade and Economics ( MITE) and Master of Public Policy and Analysis ( MPPA)". The Vice-Chancellor reported.
He added that three new programmes also approved by NUC are taking off from 2019/2020 academic session. These are BSc. Software Engineering, BSc. Microbiology and BSc. Biochemistry.
Prof. Shehu Ado thanked the Chancellor for his tremendous support and assistance to the university and extended Management's invitation to the Chancellor to pay a visit to the university to see the new structures provided.
In his speech after receiving the progress report, Mal. Aminu Dantata welcomed the Management to his Katsina residence and expressed happiness with what he described as the big progress recorded by the university.
"Insha Allah, I will continue to assist the university to become among the best universities in the country and I also pray to Allah to reward all those willing to assist the university. I assure you, as long as I live, I will continue to assist the university".
On the request to visit the university, the Chancellor assured that he would find a convenient time for the visit.
