The Vice-Chancellor, Al-Qalam University Katsina, Prof. Shehu Garki Ado has charged newly admitted students to be good ambassadors of the University in character and learning.
Addressing over one thousand students during the 16th matriculation ceremony, on thursday, 26th August, 2021, Prof. Ado urged them to work hard to justify their stay in the University by graduating at the end of their studies with flying colours.
He stated '' I urge you to follow the footsteps of your predecessors by ensuring that you squarely face your studies, work hard to graduate with sound character and learning, expected of you by your parents, family members and the society at large ."
He reminded that as an Islamic University, the students should express and conduct themselves within the tenets of the religion, acceptable cultural norms and traditional values.
While asking the students to shun anti-social activities such as drug abuse, smoking, drinking and indecent dressing, the Vice-Chancellor warned that violation of the rules and regulations contained in the Students Handbook would attract appropriate punishment.
He assured the students that the University would make their stay comfortable and provide to them all-round education of the highest standard in line with the vision of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the support the Management is getting from the University Council, Katsina Islamic Foundation, Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, Malam Aminu Al-hassan Dantata and Alh. Bilya Sanda ( Khadimul- Islam).
In his speech, the Registrar, Sani Abashe Adamu rejoiced with the matriculating students and urged them to quickly settle down and understand the islamic dictates of the University upon which their conduct within and outside the University would be modelled.
PlanninHe said that the number of the matriculating students is less compared to previous years, attributing the situation to the consequences of Covid-19 pandemic and further observed that the dwindling intake has affected most institutions of higher learning, nationwide.
He remarked " Inspite of many challenges posed by Covid-19, we are still moving on and our academic calendar is steadily progressing without breakage. "
The Registrar proceeded to administer the matriculation oath to the students after seeking approval from the Vice-Chancellor.
Two days before the matriculation ceremony, the Counseling and Human Development Centre organised orientation programme for the students.
The students received lectures from University Officials on services available to them at the Counseling and Human Development Centre, University Library, Student Affairs Division, ICT Centre and the Directorate of Academic Planning.
Lectures were also delivered to the student's by Katsina State officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) and the Batagarawa Nigeria Police Division .
