No fewer than thirty library staff of Al-Qalam University participated in a one day in-house workshop being the first of its kind in the history of the library department.

The workshop which took place on Thursday, 24th June, 2021 at the University’s   e-library section was designed to enrich the knowledge of staff in providing library resources and services to the University Community.

Declaring the workshop open, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Kado, commended the organisers for their maiden effort and assured that the University Management would continue to support positive innovations emanating from departments in the University.

‘’ I commend your zeal and interest in coming up with this in-house workshop to enhance the capacity of staff working in the library department and also to specially commend your efforts, as the workshop is the first of its kind in the department’’. He stated.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor charged the participants to thoroughly digest the content of each of the four papers which would be presented by resource persons chosen among senior staff of the University’s library.

Earlier, in a welcome address, Librarian of the University, Associate Prof. Atiku Abashe Maidabino, explained that the workshop was organised following the Vice-Chancellor’s challenge to academic departments to stimulate in their staff academic culture of workshop, seminar and conferences.

‘’ To that effect, the University Library established a committee which met several times and proposed an internal workshop for both professional and paraprofessional staff of the library and today’s workshop is the first of its kind in the history of Al-Qalam University Library’’.

The Librarian appreciated the tireless support of the University Management in areas of collection development, annual subscription of electronic data bases, staff development and further mentioned the spending approved by Management for purchase of books and other information resources running into millions of naira.

He thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Garki Ado for his encouragement, especially towards collection of resource materials for the library and appealed for speedy completion of the library extension project, stressing that its completion will enhance the services of the library, considering the rate at which the University is expanding.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu G. Ado was given award of excellence in recognition of his support to the library and able leadership.
