_*Resonance of the Political Drum in Al-Qalam University Katsina*_
Part One (1)
All is set and ready for the Political session in Al-Qalam University which have already kicked off this week with lots of posters and fliers being shared and posted on social media handles more especially WhatsApp Status.
Some State Association have already Nominated their *Elcom Committee*, like Taraba State Union, among others. As usual when the Political Drum of Al-Qalam Echo's, it all goes with lots of students attention especially those jostling to occupy various positions in their respective Associations.
Students with the spirit of Alutarism are now having sleepless night all for the sake of trying to get into power while others are well focused in making unshakable Electoral structures.
Politics in Al-Qalam University has a long history since the emergence of the Institution in 2005. Its very interesting the way students of Al-Qalam play politics. They handle it seriously just like a mirror image of the real political landscape. Before 2012 when the College of Social and Management Sciences was established, students pay little or less attention to political activities why because the population of the University was significantly low.
During the period of 2014-2018, Politics in Al-Qalam University Katsina changed dimension and calibration as lots of students began to develop sudden interest in the Game of Politics. History will never forget the struggles and sacrifices made by great Political figures &mindsets like, *MD Raula* of Economics Department; *Faruq Saleh Gagarawa* of NAJISS; *Comr. Muhammad Zeeba* of Political Science Department; *Habibu Abbas* Sociology Department; *Comr. Abdulhakim* from Political Science Department, *Dan Amarya* Accounting Department; *Dan Gambo* Economics Department, *Comr. Umar Sanda* from English Department, *Comr. Atashi Ayi Boko* of Kano Association, among others.
Political Affairs in Al-Qalam reached a new milestone with the introduction of Non-sensitive INEC materials used during the 2018 BIOSSAN Election under the supervision of Faruq Gagarawa who chaired the Elcom Commitee. It was also in the 2018 when Elections were subsequently cancelled for (NESA) Economics Association and caretaker committee appointed after series of unfortunate incidents transpired between two undefeated Comrades of Economics Department, Najib Dogon Koli and Prof Kalmanga. As a result, the University took a drastic decision by halting and restricting campaigns and various Political activities within Campus.
The inception of ALUMNI into Departmental Associations have contributed a lot in creating barricades in Al-Qalam Polical landscape. Part of which is beacuse *ALUMNI* as an Association of Ex students of Al-Qalam, came up with the idea of Centralization of Union dues into a Joint Single Account. Alumni which plays a vital role in managing departmental funds may have now turned out to limit some Independent powers wielded by Departmental Associations. There is growing fears that the Ex students Association (ALUMNI) may have a hidden agenda of accumulating powers by holding authority over Departmental Association dues. The idea of Centralization of Union dues into a Joint Single Account came with a promise to share 50% of the Dues amongst respective Associations but unfortunately, only the few lucky enough get between 25-30%.
All States and Departmental Presidents have worked tirelessly to voice their concerns but many of such efforts have proven futile.
Another remarkable achievement in 2018 was the introduction of the first ever *E_voting System* used in departmental elections by Computer science students. It was a very good and wonderful achievement when Team Mai Basira and that of Team Mahuta battled each other, with the latter emerging as the victorious side. One of the most comic Political event of that year happened with National Association of Jigawa State Students NAJISS. They played their politics with bitterness and display of power as it was the first time an election was conducted in NAJISS with all aspirants coming from different Emirates of Jigawa State. *Comr. Dan Zomo* of Economics Department from Hadejia Emirates while *Comr. Dan Modi* of Business Administration came from Gumel Emirates. At long last, Dan Modi smashed Dan Zomo with a landslide victory to spearhead the Association as it's new President.
Year 2018 saw the emergence of new Associations, after the University approved the registration of new State Associations such as Kwara State, Plateau State and Abuja and becoming part of the Political Land Scape.
